Huston.... We have a problem...

This is going to be interesting...

The apartment complex where we live is becoming my worst nightmare right now. In order for you to understand completely what I'm going through, we need to go back to November. Some time around the beginning of November two of the office staff were driving around in their little golf cart look a likes, pointing at various patios. I was sitting here next to the window so I saw when they pointed to mine. I just figured it was because we have a charcoal grill out there, and we aren't supposed to. About two days later we got a note on our door. It wasn't about the grill... It was about the Halloween stickers we had left up in McKenzie's window. They were pumpkins and some fall-ish scarecrows, and McKenzie liked looking at them, hence we didn't take them down. The note said we had until the 23rd to remove them. Okay fine, so I set the note aside and planned on taking them down ON the 23rd. Well, if you know me, then you know I forgot. They did get taken down, on the night of the 24th, a day late. Big deal.
Apparently it was to the office. Two days later there was another note on the door, this time it had a picture of the window attached and a nice $100 fine. It just so happened that one of the office dudes was down stairs showing an apartment. I took the note, gave it to him and said this is bull shit the window clings are gone. He said there was nothing he could do. We told him to give it back to whoever can.
He didn't do what he was supposed to because we got a notice saying we owed 165 dollars by the 15th and anything over $99.99 will get late fees. The 65 was supposed to be the water bill for the month, even though they got it wrong, it was only 56. So on the 15th I payed the water bill + a dollar extra so it wouldn't accumulate any late fees until we could figure this mess out. Two days after I payed, they sent another note trying to say that we owed them $199 this time. Greg and I went in there to talk to the dumb broad that took care of the finances. It took her 15 minutes to figure out that $99 was the rest of the "balcony fine" and $100 was the late fee we weren't supposed to have. Once she figured that out and we showed her the note that we had until the 15th before it was considered late she said she couldn't take any late fees off, that she would have to talk to the higher ups about it. We left both our cell numbers and she said she would call us to let us know what she found out. We never got a call. Whatever. We expected as much from them.
Our rent was due on the 1st considered late after the 3rd. We put the check in the drop box on the 3rd, paying on time. Yesterday we came home to a note on our door that we owed rent + the patio fine + a late fee. I decided to go in and talk to them about it, figuring they didn't get the check from the drop box or something. Yeah no... They got the check, she said they weren't accepting the check because it was only a partial payment. According to her we were supposed to pay the rest of the patio fine on top of rent this month. I'm still trying to figure out when we were told this. No one mentioned it to us the several time we were in the office trying to figure things out. So as I was leaving the office, fuming, I told some people looking over a lease agreement that they really didn't want to live here. I hope I put some seed of doubt in their minds.
When all is said and done, we have 3 days to pay up or leave. We're going with leave. My mom who is having some financial trouble of her own offered us my brothers room until we can find a place to live. My brother wasn't too happy about this at first, and it didn't' sound to appealing in my mind either, but the more I think about it, it will be nice. She is our daycare provider, meaning I get to wake up and leave for work. Bills will be cut in half, so we can save up to live on our own again. It will work out. I hope....

More on this later, I need to get ready for work.

  1. Wow, that's a drag... I think by law they have to give you 30 days to evacuate the premises. What jerks. Remind me not to recommend them as a place to live... Good luck with your move and I'll see you at DB.
